And so begins the journey

I was scheduled to leave the mountains of northern AZ for a congressional campaign, but when my candidate decided not to make a run for it, I was left without a job and no idea what to do next. Ever the hopeless optimist, I didn't freak out. Lo and behold, a new door opened.

Before the campaign, I worked for a member of congress in AZ. After the whole candidate fiasco, they called to offer me a job in the DC office. I've always wanted to move to DC and experience all it had to offer, but nothing had ever presented itself. So when this was offered to me, I jumped at it. I was offered the job on a Friday and accepted the following Monday and told them I'd be in to start on February 4th.

Everything fell into place. It's like I didn't have to do any work (except pack up all my life and shove it in my car). I called one of my college friends who lived in DC to see if they had an extra room availabe, which she did. The house just blocks away from where I'll be working.

I had a busy week, trying to tie up loose ends, packing EVERYTHING, and a soccer tournament in Phx. I made it back home to BHC on Tuesday (technically super early Wednesday morning) and began unpacking all my stuff so I could repack what needed to make the trip to DC w/ me. We took a family photo on Friday, and left the homestead Saturday at 4am to make my 6:40 flight in Vegas. I slept the whole way.

I made it to DC and it still hasn't hit me that this is my new residence. It feels like a semi-permanent vacation. The last few days I've been unpacking my stuff and trying to make my closet-size room a liveable space. Not bad so far. Now I'm just waiting for a bed so I don't have to sleep on the air matress much longer.

I don't start work until next Monday, so I have a few days to romp around the district. Not sure where I'll go first...
