I don't get it, but I've always been proud to be an American!!! (my pride is heightened at times, however...like when I get back from Africa!! ;)

It's in response to all these people who are suddenly proud to be American now that BO is president. I was a proud American long before he became a footnote in American history. That's all.
Do you mean to say that Barack Obama has lifted internatinal opinion of us just by signing some executive orders to close all of our foreign intelligence gathering agencies? If that bolsters the international view of us as a country, I would rather we ruled it through fear of what could happen as we did most notably in the days of the Reagan administration.
On another note, finding someone else who shares my love of opera (and Renee Fleming, let us not forget) with a healthy mixture of political activism is a blessing. I am excited about your next posts.

Tyler, I'm not sure how much inauguration coverage you watched, but it seemed that every person they interviewed said "I'm finally proud to be an American again." And it was basically b/c Obama was president and Bush no longer was. That's what I was alluding to w/ my statement. I missed most of the coverage, but from what I did catch, it appears that BO can do no wrong. I wish him well b/c I want our country to thrive...only time will tell...
Glad to hear you share some of my interests. I don't post often, but I'm hoping to get back into a habit of blogging.
