Will the Real Helen Mirren Please Stand Up? (update)(updated again)

I've seen Felen Mirren in Blithe Spirit and that was awesome. But DC is getting the real Helen Mirren this September for 10 days and 10 days only!

In a HUGE coup, the Shakespeare Theatre Company here in DC landed the LONE American engagement of the National Theatre of Great Britain's production of Racine's Phèdre. And Academy Award winner Mirren will reprise her role as the tragic lead.

"Believing her husband to be dead, the passionate Queen Phèdre allows her forbidden love for her stepson to blossom. When the King returns from war very much alive, the entire family is catapulted into a desperate, impossible situation." (STC)

Holy WOW! This is going to be hot, Hot, HOT! And when I say "HOT" I mean steamy, intense, and just crazy good. Sarah, Roxie, Kari, and I are already scheming on ways to get our hot little hands on some tickets.

*** UPDATE ***

I'm going! I'M Going! I'M GOING!!!!

A dear friend and subscriber to the Shakespeare Theatre Company graciously offerred and successfully secured tickets for me and six other gals to attend the September 26th performance. The countdown begins....

Thank you times a million Cordellia.

***ANOTHER UPDATE***

If I didn't know someone with a season subscription, I probably wouldn't be seeing the real Helen Mirren this fall. From an email sent by the STC: "On May 1, public tickets for the live performance of Phèdre sold out in five hours!"

FIVE HOURS! That's crazy!

Okay, maybe I've seen too much "Coupling," but "Felen Mirren" sounds like a porn name... Kind of like implying a jail-bait Mirren look-alike (because "Felen" sounds like "felon" said in a British accent, and besides, who would actually have the name "Felon?")

Is Coupling a Brit-com? I've heard of it, but never seen it.

Faux + Helen Mirren = Felen Mirren. There was an actress who looked like Helen Mirren. She's not the real Helen, but the fake Helen, hence the faux. I agree that Felen sounds like felon, but my mind didn't go to a porn name. Maybe that does say something about you and too much Coupling... :)

Yes, it is a Brit-com, which sadly only ran four seasons. You should watch it on Youtube, they have full episodes.

And yes, it's because there is one scene when the guys are talking about actresses who are often partially or fully nude on screen, and they talk about Helen Mirren always showing her bottom in movies. So obviously, there was a logical chain of thought.

Chelsea,

About the "Another Update" of this post, particularly the information regarding the sell-out time of this play, I do not know if it can be classified in the same group, but when Luciano Pavarotti gave two "benefit" concerts here in Oklahoma City for a new hospital wing, tickets for both performances sold out in three hours, and I think there was something like 1,500 seats available to the public.

I am glad that you are going to see the REAL Helen Mirren, by the way.
